Veeam is happy to provide the Microsoft community with new study guide prepared by an MVP, an MCT Orin Thomas. This study guide for Microsoft's 74-409 Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center exam will take you through each of the exam objectives, helping you to prepare for and pass the examination.

By reading these 8 chapters of the study guide you will learn about:

Virtual Machine Settings
Virtual machine storage
Hyper-V Virtual Networks and virtualization networking
Implementing virtual machines
Managing Virtualization Hosts and Infrastructure
Hyper-V Failover Clustering and Failover Clustering Roles
Virtual Machine Movement
Monitoring and disaster recovery

MeasureUp's practice test for 74-409: Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center helps candidates validate their readiness for taking and passing the Microsoft 74-409 exam.

This exam is designed for IT professionals who are responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining a virtualization infrastructure using Microsoft virtualization technologies. Candidates should be able to configure Hyper-V and virtual machine high availability. Candidates should also be able to implement, monitor, and maintain a server virtualization infrastructure.

Certification: This exam counts as credit toward the following certifications:
MCP, Microsoft Specialist

Pluralsight doesn’t have a specific course for this exam, but several of the exam objectives overlap with other exams in the Windows 2012 MCSA track.  I picked the following modules out of other courses that are relevant:
Windows Server 2012 R2 (70-410) Configure Hyper-V
Windows Server 2012 R2 (70-412) Configure High Availability
Windows Server 2012 R2 (70-414) Highly Available Enterprise
Windows Server 2012 R2 (70-414) Virtualization Infrastructure
System Center 2012 R2 Self Service Virtual Machine Provisioning

Pluralsight did have some courses that cover the MCSE: Private Cloud exam track which also has a lot of overlapping content.  I watched through all 3 of Elias Khnaser’s course on the subject:
System Center 2012 Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud Pt 1
System Center 2012 Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud Pt 2
System Center 2012 Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud Pt 3

Reading wise, there wasn’t a study guide specifically for the exam, but John Savill’s Master Hyper-V 2012 R2 with System Center and Windows Azure was really good, not just for the exam, but goes into a huge amount of detail.  Orin Thomas has put out a 160 page study guide for the exam that gives really concise information and related Powershell cmdlets on each objective and is perfect to run through and hour before the exam.

On the run up to the exam, I ran through MeasureUp’s tests a number of times.  I didn’t agree with some of the answers they gave and did provide feedback on a dozen or so questions.  Regardless, it made me re-read the TechNet documentation given in the references and double check things for myself which was a good learning experience in itself.
Microsoft Exam 74-409

I passed the exam first time, with a score of 895 which I was pleased with.  As well as giving me a “Microsoft Specialist” certificate, it also completed by MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification as you can take 74-409 in place of the 70-412 exam which would usually be your final exam in the MCSA 2012 track.  It seems like a fair substitution to be honest, as you have to know a lot of the 70-412 content in order to take the 74-409.
